Sky Bet EFL: Matchday 10 round-up

Brentford were the big winners in the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday of Matchday 10, thumping Reading 4-1.

Lasse Vibe was one of four goalscorers for the Bees, who moved up to fourth as a result, with Bristol City just behind them in fifth following a 1-0 triumph over Leeds United.

Birmingham City drew to go onto 17 points alongside those sides, while Sheffield Wednesday and the Royals are also on 17 after a win and the aforementioned loss respectively.

Huddersfield Town reclaimed top spot on Tuesday by beating Rotherham United 2-1 at home.

At the wrong end of the table, Derby County, who were under the guidance of assistant manager Chris Powell, moved up to 20th with a 2-0 success at Cardiff City.

Wigan Athletic, meanwhile, beat Wolves 2-1 to also rise out of the bottom three.

On Wednesday evening, Newcastle United and Norwich City shared a seven-goal thriller at St James' Park. The hosts won 4-3 thanks to two stoppage-time goals, with the latter seeing Dwight Gayle complete his hat-trick.

Free-scoring Scunthorpe United maintained their place at the Sky Bet League One summit with a confident 4-1 victory at Walsall, which was recorded courtesy of a hat-trick from Josh Morris.

Second-placed Bury kept up the pace by winning 3-1 at MK Dons, where James Vaughan bagged twice for the Shakers.

Bradford City, Northampton Town, Port Vale and Sheffield United make up the top six after all four notched three points on Matchday 10.

Bolton Wanderers dropped to seventh, meanwhile, as they were beaten by mid-table Rochdale.

At the bottom, Southend United moved up to 19th after a victory at home to Oxford United.

On Wednesday evening, Coventry drew 2-2 with AFC Wimbledon, which extended their winless run.

Plymouth Argyle opened up a five-point gap at the summit of Sky Bet League Two thanks to a 2-0 victory over Leyton Orient on Matchday 10.

Luton Town, in second, third-placed Doncaster Rovers and Portsmouth, in fourth, all dropped points.

The Hatters drew with Hartlepool, Rovers shared the points with the unbeaten Carlisle while Pompey lost 3-1 to Blackpool.

Notts County and Grimsby Town are up to fifth and sixth respectively.

The Magpies won their fourth successive away match, at Exeter, and the Mariners, in their first season back in the EFL, were 1-0 victors against Newport County.

Wycombe Wanderers were the division's big winners on Matchday 10, thumping Crewe Alexandra 5-1.

Cambridge United, meanwhile, moved up to 21st after their second win in as many games, seeing off Yeovil Town.
