Sky Bet EFL: Matchday round-up

29 October 2016

Brighton & Hove Albion remained in the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion places after thrashing close challengers Norwich City 5-0.

Glenn Murray hit three goals to make it six wins in eight games for the Seagulls, as manager Chris Hughton got one over on his former employers in style.

Fulham also claimed three points courtesy of a 5-0 scoreline, against another team fighting near the top of the table. The Cottagers thumped third-placed Huddersfield Town, who have now conceded eight times in their last two away games.

There were plenty of other goals around the grounds on Matchday 15. Barnsley and Bristol City drew 2-2 following a late equaliser from Adam Hammill, and Ipswich Town also rescued a point late on, against Rotherham United, in another 2-2 scoreline.

Newcastle United remain top after a fifth straight success, at Preston North End, while at the other end of the division, managerless Wigan Athletic inflicted a first defeat on Cardiff City under Neil Warnock.

Elsewhere, Derby County, Leeds United and Reading all claimed victories.

Sheffield United continued their impressive unbeaten streak, beating managerless Milton Keynes Dons 2-1, and Bradford City remain in the mix at the top thanks to their dramatic 3-2 win at AFC Wimbledon.

The Bantams weren’t the only side to walk away with the spoils in the dying moments - Tom Nichols struck in second-half stoppage time to gift Peterborough United all three points at Bristol Rovers.

Charlton Athletic, Fleetwood Town, Millwall and Rochdale were all victorious, as were Northampton Town, who saw off a late fightback from Bury to move into the Play-Off places.
