Sky Bet EFL: Matchday 11 round-up

1 October 2016

Huddersfield Town maintained their lead at the Sky Bet Championship summit following a 1-0 win at Ipswich Town.

Norwich City dropped to fifth after the 3pm games but were back up to second by close of play having beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in the evening kick-off live on Sky Sports.

Then come Newcastle United, in third - Rafa Benitez's men were 1-0 winners at Rotherham United.

Brighton & Hove Albion are fourth after winning at Hillsborough for the first time ever, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1.

The Owls’ Yorkshire rivals, Leeds United and Barnsley, battled it out at Elland Road and it was the hosts who won 2-1.

Another derby came in the capital, where QPR beat Fulham in the day’s early kick-off, and Derby were denied a second successive win under Chris Powell after a late Reading equaliser at the Madejski.

Preston North End piled more misery on Aston Villa at Deepdale as they cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Scunthorpe United won the top-of-the-table clash in Sky Bet League One on Matchday 11, beating Bury 2-1.

Goal-getter Josh Morris scored for the 12th time in 14 outings to earn the Iron their victory, and that moved them three points clear at the summit.

Bradford City are up to second as they maintained their undefeated start with a 1-0 triumph at Chesterfield.

Sheffield United are up to fourth following a draw at Fleetwood Town, while Bristol Rovers rose to the brink of the top six after ending Northampton Town’s long-standing unbeaten home record, which stretched back to December last year.

In their thrilling 3-2 victory at Sixfields, Gas defender Peter Hartley scored what was the 1000th goal of EFL Season 2016/17.

Plymouth Argyle’s commanding lead at the top of Sky Bet League Two continued following the Pilgrims’ 4-1 victory over Yeovil Town.

That impressive result maintained their five-point cushion over second place, which is now occupied by Doncaster Rovers.

Darren Ferguson’s side triumphed 2-1 at Portsmouth, while third-placed Carlisle United - League Two’s only unbeaten team - saw off Colchester United at home.

Cambridge United won their third game on the spin largely thanks to goalkeeper Will Norris, who saved two stoppage-time penalties to earn Star of the Day status in the EFL.
