Sky Bet Championship: Two home wins kick-off the weekend

14 October 2016

Neil Warnock picked up a win in his first game in charge of Cardiff City in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday night.

The Severnside Derby was decided with a second-half goal from debutant Bluebird Sol Bamba, to repay the faith shown in him by the newly-appointed Warnock, after Peter Whittingham had opened the scoring with a 25th-minute penalty.

Lee Tomlin grabbed a goal for the Robins but it was in vain as the home side saw off the late pressure to pick up the victory.

Elsewhere on Friday night, at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest ended their six-game winless run against Birmingham City.

Goals from substitutes, Apostolos Vellios and Hildeberto Pereira followed up Eric Lichaj's first-half strike to cancel out a Lukas Jutkiewicz goal and seal a 3-1 win.

The two sides made strides up the Sky Bet Championship table ahead of Saturday's action, with Cardiff up four places, and Forest up five.
