Round Four: Record-breaking night for EFL Cup

27 October 2016

It was a record-breaking night for the EFL Cup, with the competition making history with its highest ever fourth round attendance.

An impressive 341,942 people attended the eight fourth round matches, eclipsing the previous record of 292,310 set in 2015/16. The historical figures date back 57 seasons to the competition’s formation in 1960/61.

This year’s fourth round boasted a number of mouth-watering fixtures including the Manchester derby and a heavyweight battle between Liverpool and Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United set their highest home attendance for an EFL Cup fixture in 40 years and Leeds United reached the Quarter-Finals of the competition for the second time in five seasons.
