It was a record-breaking night for the EFL Cup, with the competition making history with its highest ever fourth round attendance.
An impressive 341,942 people attended the eight fourth round matches, eclipsing the previous record of 292,310 set in 2015/16. The historical figures date back 57 seasons to the competition’s formation in 1960/61.This year’s fourth round boasted a number of mouth-watering fixtures including the Manchester derby and a heavyweight battle between Liverpool and Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Newcastle United set their highest home attendance for an EFL Cup fixture in 40 years and Leeds United reached the Quarter-Finals of the competition for the second time in five seasons.
In total, three of the Round Four fixtures were played in front of crowds of more than 50,000. Sky Bet Championship side Newcastle United had just 958 supporters shy of reaching the 50,000 mark, as 49,042 fans watched the Toon Army beat Preston North End 6-0.

Manchester United squeezed out rivals Manchester City with a 1-0 victory in front of a 74,196-strong crowd to book their place in the Quarter-Finals, while Liverpool recorded a 2-1 victory at Anfield, watched by 53,051.
Elsewhere, more than 80,000 people watched West Ham, Southampton and Hull City progress to the next stage of the competition.
