Burton Albion 2-0 Birmingham City: An unhappy return for Gary Rowett

21 October 2016

It proved to be an unhappy return to Burton Albion for Gary Rowett as the Brewers beat his Birmingham City side 2-0.

The Blues boss spent time as a player with Burton before becoming their manager in 2012, and he guided the club to two Play-Off finishes in Sky Bet League Two.

He then moved onto Birmingham in 2014 and, in the meantime, the Brewers made a remarkable climb up to the Championship.

That brought the two sides, separated by only 26 miles, together for a first EFL clash in front of the Sky Sports cameras to kick-off Matchday 14 in the division, and a goal in each half, scored by Lloyd Dyer and Jamie Ward, guided Burton to three points.

The result lifted Nigel Clough's side up to 13th in the Sky Bet Championship, while Birmingham sit fifth.
