Preview: EFL Cup Quarter-Final

28 November 2016

It's EFL Cup Quarter-Final week, and we have four exciting ties to look forward to as the Wembley showdown edges closer.

The action is split over two nights – two games on Tuesday and two on Wednesday – with the Sky Sports cameras showing two Quarter-Finals.

The coverage starts on Tuesday at Anfield, where eight-time winners Liverpool entertain Leeds United.

While Jurgen Klopp's men are going well in the Premier League, sitting second, Leeds are excelling in the Sky Bet Championship and lie fifth with four wins in their last five.

Garry Monk's side have needed two penalty shoot-outs to reach this stage of the competition – against Fleetwood (Round One) and Norwich (Round Four) – and they've also overcome Blackburn (1-0) and Luton (1-0).

The Reds, meanwhile, have got the better of Burton (5-0), Derby (3-0) and Tottenham (2-1).

Also on Tuesday, Championship leaders Newcastle United visit Hull City.

Rafa Benitez watched his side lose to Blackburn at the weekend but they won nine games on the spin prior to that, including a Round Four mauling of Preston North End (6-0).

Hull are struggling in the league, winning one in 11, but have enjoyed EFL Cup victories over Exeter (3-1), Stoke (2-1), and Bristol City (2-1).

A day later there are two all-Premier League Quarter-Final clashes.

The Sky Sports cameras will be at Old Trafford, where Manchester United entertain West Ham United for the second game in succession.

The pair shared a 1-1 draw in the league on Sunday, when Zlatan Ibrahimovic cancelled out Diafra Sakho's opener.

That one is an 8pm kick but, 15 minutes before that, Arsenal and Southampton will get under way at the Emirates Stadium.

Both were victors at the weekend, ahead of what is their 91st meeting in all competitions. Arsenal beat the Saints 2-1 earlier in the season, but it was the visitors who came out on top by the same scoreline when they last met in the EFL Cup, in September 2014.
