Mansfield Town: Steve Evans to face former club in first game – updated EFL manager table

18 November 2016

In a busy week of comings and goings, Steve Evans made a return to EFL management after being named as the new Mansfield Town boss.

The 54-year-old, who left Leeds United in May, has replaced Adam Murray at the One Call Stadium with the Stags sitting 18th Sky Bet League Two.

But they're only three points off the Play-Off places and it's fair to say Evans has a history of getting teams out of divisions at the right end, with no fewer than nine promotions on his CV, including three in the EFL.

Evans' EFL promotions

2011/12: Guides Crawley Town to promotion from Sky Bet League Two

2012/13: Leads Rotherham United out of Sky Bet League Two as runners-up

2013/14: Wins the Sky Bet League One Play-Offs with Rotherham United

And it's those credentials that Stags chairman John Radford highlighted when revealing Evans, who will be joined by long-serving assistant Paul Raynor.

Radford told mansfieldtown.net: “Steve’s resume is among the best in the English Football League and his appointment underlines the club’s high ambitions.

“The club is geared for success from top to bottom and we have every confidence in Steve to fulfil the club’s potential.”

Evans' first task as Mansfield Town manager? A home game against none other than his former club Crawley Town!
