Brighton 1-1 Aston Villa: Spoils shared to kick-off EFL weekend

18 November 2016

Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa shared a 1-1 draw in the Sky Bet Championship to kick-off the EFL weekend.

Both goals came in the first half with Nathan Baker giving the visiting Villa the lead before Glenn Murray moved into double figures for the campaign with the Seagulls’ equaliser.

After a quiet start to proceedings it was Aston Villa who went in front in the 20th minute.

Albert Adomah struck a free-kick into the box and defender Baker was there to glance the ball home for his first goal for the club.

It was the first goal Brighton had conceded since mid-October, following four successive clean sheets, and they nearly went 2-0 immediately after.

But they held firm and grabbed a fine equaliser just before the break.

Murray played a one-two with Sam Baldock before firing into the bottom corner to score his 150th league goal.

It was a high-octane second half but neither side could find a way through.

Adomah caused Brighton problems on the wing, and Grealish and Kodjia went close with efforts on goal, while Brighton’s best chance was from substitute Jamie Murphy.
