Wigan Athletic striker Will Grigg has been named the Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month for April.
Seven goals in six games for the 24-year-old helped to seal Wigan’s promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.His predatory instincts were on show with the braces he poached against Shrewsbury Town and Southend United.
Grigg said: “It’s been a brilliant season for us. I spoke to the manager and the chairman at the start of the season and the vision they had for the club was exactly what I was looking for.
“It took a little bit of time to gel with my new teammates but the last six months have been brilliant. It’s been a season to remember.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “To follow up last month’s four goals with another seven this month is an amazing achievement and has earned Wigan promotion to the Championship.
“Every time that Grigg scored in April, Wigan went on to collect three points and this, ultimately, is what got them over the line.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
