Sky Bet Play-Offs: Plymouth Argyle net last-gasp winner to beat Portsmouth

15 May 2016

Plymouth Argyle scored a late winner to stun Portsmouth and reach the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium later this month.

With the score locked at 2-2 on aggregate following Thursday’s high-octane first leg, the second looked destined to go to extra-time after a goalless 90 minutes.

But a 91st-minute header from Peter Hartley sparked jubilant scenes at Home Park, leaving Portsmouth to deal with the most devastating of defeats.

On balance, Argyle created more chances throughout the game, and prior to Hartley’s goal had come closest through Jake Jervis, who headed onto the post.

The Pilgrims now face one of Accrington Stanley or AFC Wimbledon in the Sky Bet League 2 Final at Wembley on Monday 30th May 2016.
