Norwich City: It's all about gearing up for next year - captain Russell Martin

12 May 2016

Norwich City captain Russell Martin spoke of the disappointment in the dressing room after relegation, but has already turned attentions to next season.

The Canaries, promoted via the Sky Bet Play-Offs only last year, beat Watford 4-2 at Carrow Road on Tuesday but Sunderland's victory against Everton saw them lose their place in the top flight.

Martin says the team needs to learn from the experience, and come back stronger in 2016/17.

"The lads are all hurting,” he told Norwich City TV

"It's very raw but we need to make sure we finish on a high on Sunday. We will take pride from our performance tonight but over the course of the season we've not been good enough.

"Football owes us nothing so we have to kick on and get ready for next season.

"If you look elsewhere to try and deflect blame then you're kidding yourself. We've not been good enough over the course of the season.

"We have to move forward now because we've got a lot of good people at this football club. We have to learn from this season in order to progress.

"It's all about gearing up for next year and getting over this quickly."
