The Sky Bet Football League Play-Offs haven't been a happy hunting ground for Brighton & Hove Albions' Gordon Greer, but he's hungry to make it third time lucky this year.
Greer was part of the Albion sides who lost at the first hurdle in both 2013 and 2014, against Crystal Palace and Derby County, and he'll again play a pivotal part this year when they face Sheffield Wednesday in the semi-finals.The first leg takes place on Friday at Hillsborough (7.45pm) live on Sky Sports, and the defender wants the team to take their league form into the end-of-season showdown.
“The Play-Offs haven’t given me the greatest experiences since I’ve been at Brighton, but hopefully this is our year,” the club captain told seagulls.co.uk.
The Seagulls only missed out on automatic promotion to the top flight on the last day, after a 1-1 draw with second-placed Middlesbrough, but that took their undefeated record to 14 matches, stretching back to mid-February.
And Greer has urged the team to maintain that vein of form against an Owls side who have won only once in their last six outings.
“The first year we got into the Play-Offs under Gus, we were only two points off an automatic promotion place; this time we were level and only missed out by two goals.
“We’ve played really well over the last few months and it’s about us taking that into the next two games.
“I've told the players about my own experiences, when we scored a last-minute goal to get into the Play-Offs against Nottingham Forest [in 2014] and we were so delighted to get there.
“We’ve still got another chance to go up now and Sheffield Wednesday over two legs will be a tough couple of games, but we’re still in there and we’re still fighting. It’s important we focus on that.”
Don't miss it!
