Winless run broken: The only way is up for Colchester United

4 March 2016

Colchester United remain 10 points from safety in Sky Bet League 1 but head to Port Vale this weekend having brought an end to their club record 19-match winless run.

Kevin Keen picked up his first league win as manager at the 12th attempt on Tuesday night when his side came from behind to beat Bradford City 2-1 at Valley Parade.

Darren Ambrose scored twice to increase the club's points tally to 27, two adrift of Crewe Alexandra with 12 matches left to play.

Their attentions now turn to the weekend when they travel to play a Port Vale side who have lost just once on home turf all season, and have quietly brought themselves to within three points of a Play-Off spot.

Colchester haven't won back-to-back fixtures since late September but Keen is hoping some added confidence will spark further victories.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: "We will just take the next game individually and try and win that.

"We can't look any further ahead than that. We've been bottom for a little while now, so we have to make sure we just look and try and win the next game, come what may.

"But I'm so pleased for the players and the supporters that travel week in, week out."
