Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 39 review

28 March 2016

Plymouth Argyle took advantage of Bristol Rovers’ first loss in eight games to move into the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League 2.

The Pilgrims survived a late scare to beat York City 3-2 at Home Park, as Carlisle United defeated Rovers 3-2 to end their six-game winning run.

Accrington Stanley also leaped above the Gas, after goals from Billy Kee and Josh Windass spurred them to all three points at Newport County.

Leaders Northampton Town edged closer to promotion but they were made to work for a result on Monday, and had to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Mansfield Town.

The Cobblers’ fellow promotion contenders Oxford United began a big week that sees them contest the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final with a goalless draw at Cambridge United, while Play-Off chasing Wycombe Wanderers also drew a blank away at Notts County.
