Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 36 review

12 March 2016

Northampton Town moved 14 points clear at the top of Sky Bet League 2, despite letting a late lead slip against Cambridge United.

Jimmy Spencer cancelled out John Marquis’ opener for the Cobblers, whose unbeaten run now stands at 14 matches, but other results went in favour for the league leaders.

Leyton Orient won 1-0 at Oxford United, while Accrington Stanley turned things around late on to beat Plymouth Argyle 2-1 after Kelvin Mellor was dismissed late on for the Pilgrims.

Portsmouth were thumped 3-0 at home by Newport County, meaning Bristol Rovers climbed into fourth following a 1-0 triumph against Mansfield Town. Wycombe Wanderers are just one place outside the top seven after defeating Stevenage.

Luton Town’s four-match winning run was halted by Crawley Town, while AFC Wimbledon went down 2-1 at Morecambe, giving the Shrimps a long-awaited three points.

Hartlepool United took a huge step towards safety with a win over Dagenham & Redbridge, while bottom club York City picked up a point at home to Barnet. Yeovil Town continued their march to safety with a 1-0 success over Notts County.

Last but not least, Exeter City and Carlisle United shared the spoils in a game which was delayed for 70 minutes following a smoke hazard at St James Park.
