Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 35 preview

4 March 2016

Wigan Athletic have the opportunity to extend their unbeaten run to 14 games on Matchday 35 as they look to close the gap at the top of Sky Bet League 1.

The Latics, who play Peterborough United, are in terrific form and could reduce the deficit to leaders Burton Albion if the Brewers slip up at Crewe Alexandra, who are eight points adrift of safety.

Here's the full list of fixtures taking place in Sky Bet League 1 on Matchday 35. All games kick-off at 3pm:

Saturday 5th March

Bury v Bradford City
Coventry City v Rochdale
Crewe Alexandra v Burton Albion
Doncaster Rovers v Shrewsbury Town
Fleetwood Town v Sheffield United
Millwall v Blackpool
Oldham Athletic v Swindon Town
Port Vale v Colchester United
Scunthorpe United v Gillingham
Southend United v Chesterfield
Walsall v Barnsley
Wigan Athletic v Peterborough United

Walsall are the nearest challengers for an automatic promotion position and entertain Barnsley this weekend, who could find themselves in a Play-Off place on Saturday evening if results go their way.

Fourth-placed Gillingham have lost their last three games and haven't won on the road since Boxing Day. Justin Edinburgh's side travel to Scunthorpe, who will still fancy their chances of a top-six finish being just six points adrift as things stand.

Millwall remain fifth following their midweek draw with Wigan, and welcome Blackpool to The Den on Saturday. The Tangerines are without a win in five and, as a result, have slipped into the relegation places.

Coventry City maintain a top-six place, albeit on goal difference only, and will hold onto that position if they can beat Rochdale at the Ricoh Arena.

At the bottom, Colchester won for the first time in 19 outings on Tuesday, ahead of a weekend trip to Port Vale, who haven't suffered defeat on home turf since early October.

Oldham Athletic are still in the drop zone despite being unbeaten in their last seven, however they may escape the relegation places if they can beat Swindon Town.

Elsewhere, Bury play Bradford, Doncaster Rovers take on Shrewsbury Town, Fleetwood Town entertain Sheffield United and Southend lock horns with Chesterfield.
