Sky Bet Football League Team of Midweek

2 March 2016

With a vast number of games taking place over the past few days, we've pulled together some of the stand-out performers to make up our Team of Midweek.

Goalkeeper: Scott Loach (Notts County)

Loach was in superb form for Notts County, who survived an onslaught from Sky Bet League 2 strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

The Daggers bombarded their opponents with 11 shots on target over the 90 minutes, but the Magpies stopper stood up to the task.

Defender: Josh Coulson (Cambridge United)

A 1-0 win for Cambridge kept the U's firmly on the fringes of the Sky Bet League 2 Play-Offs, just three points adrift.

Coulson and his team-mates kept out fellow Play-Off hopefuls Wycombe Wanderers, and the centre-back popped up at the other end to head home the decisive goal.

Defender: Nathaniel Knight-Percival (Shrewsbury Town)

Shrewsbury climbed out of the Sky Bet League 1 relegation zone thanks to a three-point haul against Rochdale.

It was the third clean sheet in four for a Shrews defence led superbly by Knight-Percival, who also nodded home the second goal in the 2-0 win.

Defender: Chey Dunkley (Oxford United)

Oxford were rampant at home to York City, winning 4-0 to secure their first triumph on home soil in 2016.

Dunkley was solid at the back when required, and also got his name on the scoresheet in a fine attacking display from the Sky Bet League 2 promotion-chasers.

Midfielder: Conor Hourihane (Barnsley)

It wasn't that long ago that Barnsley were bottom of Sky Bet League 1, but now they only sit outside the top six on goal difference only.

Hourihane excelled for the Tykes again, with his set-pieces teeing up Mark Roberts and Ashley Fletcher in the 2-0 win over Coventry City.

Midfielder: Darren Ambrose (Colchester United)

Ambrose inspired Colchester to a comeback win at Bradford City, bringing a 19-match winless run to an end.

A 20th threatened, but the midfielder struck once in each half to give Sky Bet League 1's bottom club a vital boost in their battle for survival.

Midfielder: Dale Stephens (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Brighton delivered a stunning first-half display against Leeds United on Monday night, hitting four goals without response.

Stephens played a part in two of the goals as the Seagulls closed the gap on the Sky Bet Championship's automatic promotion places.

Midfielder: Luke Gambin (Barnet)

Gambin was a man on form as Barnet upset Sky Bet League 2 promotion chasers Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night.

The winger was a threat throughout, and deserved to be on the winning side – which he was thanks to Bees skipper Andy Yiadom's lone strike.

Forward: Jonathan Obika (Swindon Town)

Obika hit a brace to pile more misery on Doncaster Rovers and give Swindon Town a fourth successive Sky Bet League 1 victory.

The first was a close-range finish following a swift break, before he slotted home in the second half to seal the points for the Robins.

Forward: Matty Taylor (Bristol Rovers)

Bristol Rovers returned to Sky Bet League 2's top seven thanks to a convincing win over Hartlepool United.

The main man at the Memorial on Tuesday night was Matty Taylor, who helped himself to three goals and the matchball in the 4-1 success.

Forward: Wes Burns (Fleetwood Town)

Burns scored one and made another as Fleetwood triumphed 2-1 to put another dent in Gillingham's automatic promotion hopes.

The on-loan Bristol City man's corner found its way in, before he crossed for Shola Ameobi to net his first in Fleetwood colours after just nine minutes.

Manager: Darren Way (Yeovil Town)

Yeovil's fight against relegation from Sky Bet League 2 continued with a fantastic 1-0 home win against promotion-chasing Accrington Stanley.

The Glovers secured victory thanks to Ryan Dickson's early strike, which stretched their unbeaten run to four games and moved them six points clear from the relegation trap door.
