Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 38 review

19 March 2016

Rotherham United clinched their fourth win in five outings to move clear of the Sky Bet Championship relegation places on Matchday 38.

Leon Best's first-half goal proved enough to seal maximum points for the Millers in a 1-0 win over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

As a result, Milton Keynes Dons fell into the bottom three after a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, who moved up to second.

The Seagulls took advantage of Burnley's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Turf Moor to reduce the gap at the top to four points.

Bolton Wanderers are 12 points from safety with eight games to go after losing 6-0 to Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Charlton Athletic conceded three second-half goals as Sheffield Wednesday maintained sixth place in the table with a 3-0 win at Hillsborough.

Huddersfield Town secured the bragging rights of Yorkshire with a 4-1 win over Leeds United at Elland Road, while Derby County won the East Midlands derby with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Birmingham City drew 1-1 with Fulham while Blackburn Rovers beat Brentford 1-0 at Griffin Park.

Elsewhere, Reading drew 1-1 with Cardiff City, with the same scoreline being recorded at Deepdale where Preston North End shared the points with Queens Park Rangers.

On Friday night, Middlesbrough recorded a crucial win over promotion rivals Hull City, triumphing 1-0 after previously suffering back-to-back defeats.
