Ahead of the big day, we asked supporters who they would like to face on the opening day. Here's a look at a few of the responses we received...
Brighton endured a disappointing end to last season with a Play-Off semi-final defeat to Sheffield Wednesday, and Seagulls supporter Keir Standing wants immediate revenge by facing the Owls on the opening day of the 2016/17 EFL campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday was also a popular choice for other supporters, including those from the north east, with Newcastle United fan Russell wanting a trip to Hillsborough on a Friday night.

Meetings with Aston Villa also proved popular with a host of supporters hoping to face the Sky Bet Championship new boys on the opening day. It will be a new-look Villa squad that competes in the division this term, and Tommy Elphick became Roberto Di Matteo's first signing as boss.

Villa's inclusion in the league means their rivalry with Birmingham City will be renewed and numerous supporters highlighted their excitement for that match, while Rotherham United supporters called for an opening day home clash with Yorkshire rivals Barnsley.

Another interesting battle will see near-neighbours Burton Albion and Derby County go head-to-head this season, and that was tweeted by numerous Brewers and Rams supporters as the game they want on the first day.
Walsall will be harbouring promotion ambitions this term after falling short in the Play-Offs last time around, and Saddlers fan Karl tweeted his desire for a opening day trip to Peterborough United.

Southend United supporter Jessica, meanwhile, wants a home match with relegated Charlton Athletic, who won the division in 2011/12.

It's been all change at Port Vale with Bruno Ribeiro replacing Rob Page, who left Vale Park to take over at Northampton Town, and Coventry City-supporting James Leeson would take either of those two clubs on the first day, or a home game against Millwall or Bristol Rovers.

Grimsby Town are back in the EFL after a five-year exile and they are the desired opening-day opponents for a number of Sky Bet League Two supporters.
On the flip side, a Mariners fan named Si – arguably the politest supporter there is – tweeted his ideal opening-day fixture, which was a visit to the seaside to face Blackpool, who come into the division after relegation last term.
@EFL@officialgtfc I want never gets 😉. I would like sounds better. Manners Mr EFL. 😂 I would like Blackpool away
— Si (@SiJohnners) June 21, 2016
Another Grimsby fan wasn't as picky, though...
@EFL Anybody home or away, I don't care. Just glad to be back!! @officialgtfc#UTM

It seems the seaside is the ideal location for a number of fans, while many Portsmouth supporters posted their excitement for the next instalment of Pompey versus Plymouth Argyle, after the two clashed in last season's Play-Off semi-finals.
Cheltenham Town came up from the National League alongside Grimsby and Robins season ticket holder Darren asked for an opening-day trip to Manchester United, in his dreams. Maybe in a few years it'll be reality, Darren!

Elsewhere, Newport County supporters are relishing a meeting with Notts County to cross paths with John Sheridan, who departed Rodney Parade last season and has since taken up the managerial post at Meadow Lane.

And finally, Luton Town fan Callum tweeted his wish for an opening-day home encounter against Darren Way's Yeovil Town, with the Hatters finishing 2015/16 positively with four wins from the last six outings.
