Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 28 review

23 January 2016

Northampton Town returned to the top of Sky Bet League 2, leapfrogging Plymouth Argyle, by seeing off Morecambe 3-1.

Chris Wilder's Cobblers took advantage of the Pilgrims’ draw at Bristol Rovers, to move to the summit for the second time this term.

Portsmouth hosted Oxford United in the other game involving two high-flying teams, and it was the visiting U’s who prevailed thanks to a debut goal from Jordan Bowery.

Kevin Nolan also enjoyed debut delight, guiding Leyton Orient to a 2-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers in his first game in charge, while Nathan Jones collected his first three points as Luton Town boss.

AFC Wimbledon also enjoyed away day success, at Notts County, and Exeter City came from behind to see off Accrington Stanley 2-1. Yeovil Town won by the same scoreline, against Crawley Town.

Elsewhere, Carlisle United’s return to Brunton Park produced a 1-1 draw with York City; Stevenage versus Barnet finished goalless and Cambridge United shared the points with Hartlepool United.
