Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 28 preview

22 January 2016

A full schedule of Sky Bet League 2 fixtures takes place this weekend, with Kevin Nolan set for his dugout debut on Matchday 28 as the new player-manager of Leyton Orient.

The former West Ham United, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers captain takes his Leyton Orient side to Wycombe Wanderers knowing that a victory could see them leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Meanwhile, four of the top five teams go head-to-head on an intriguing weekend of action.

Here’s a look at all the fixtures taking place in Sky Bet League 2 this weekend, all kicking off at 3pm:

Saturday 23rd January

Bristol Rovers v Plymouth Argyle
Cambridge United v Hartlepool United
Carlisle United v York City
Exeter City v Accrington Stanley
Mansfield Town v Luton Town
Newport County v Dagenham & Redbridge
Northampton Town v Morecambe
Notts County v AFC Wimbledon
Portsmouth v Oxford United
Stevenage v Barnet
Wycombe Wanderers v Leyton Orient
Yeovil Town v Crawley Town

The battle at the top of the league continues this weekend with Plymouth and Northampton only separated on goal difference.

Argyle travel to Bristol Rovers, who have promotion aspirations of their own, while the Cobblers take on Morecambe having won four games on the spin – and the action towards the summit doesn't end there.

Oxford United – the closest challengers in the league –  are seven points adrift of the pace-setters and face a tricky trip to Portsmouth, who are just two places below them and have lost just once in nine matches.

Accrington are in sixth place but have as many as four games in hand over some of the teams above them. They make the long trip to Exeter who have lost three home league games in succession.

Kevin Nolan will take charge of Leyton Orient for the first time since being unveiled as the club’s new player-manager earlier in the week. The O’s travel to Adams Park to take on Wycombe who occupy the final Play-Off position in Sky Bet League 2.

Stevenage are without a win since mid-December and entertain a Barnet side who haven’t won on the road since late October.

Carlisle make an emotional return home to Brunton Park where they haven’t played since late November due to the floods inflicted by Storm Desmond, and they play bottom club York.

The Minstermen could move off the bottom if they win, however that will depend on results elsewhere as Yeovil take on Crawley and Dagenham & Redbridge face Newport at Rodney Parade.
