Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 27 review

16 January 2016

Plymouth Argyle and Northampton Town remain neck-and-neck at the top of Sky Bet League 2, after both recorded victories on Matchday 27.

The Pilgrims still sit at the summit by virtue of better goal difference following a 3-2 win over Stevenage at Home Park.

Northampton, meanwhile, secured their fourth successive League victory, coming from behind to triumph 2-1 at Dagenham & Redbridge.

Wycombe Wanderers were the only other top-seven side in action due to Accrington Stanley and Portsmouth’s game being called off, and Oxford United and Bristol Rovers having their fixture moved to Sunday.

The Chairboys failed to capitalise on their absence, however, losing 1-0 at Hartlepool United, who ended a run of four defeats on the spin. Bristol Rovers came out on top in the aforementioned Sunday fixture, fighting back to beat Oxford 2-1 courtesy of a late Ellis Harrison penalty.

Elsewhere, Newport County began life without John Sheridan with a 1-0 win against bottom club York City, while there were also victories for AFC Wimbledon, Notts County, Exeter City and Morecambe.
