Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 25 review

2 January 2016

Sky Bet League 2's top four going into 2016 all carried on where they left off with wins in Matchday 25.

Plymouth Argyle netted a goal in each half to come away with three points at Carlisle United, in a match played at Blackburn Rovers' Ewood Park.

Behind them are Northampton Town - who cruised to a 3-0 win at home to Barnet - and Oxford United, who were made to work hard for a late 4-2 win at Notts County.

Portsmouth ran out 3-0 winners over Crawley Town, and Bristol Rovers climbed into the top five with a 2-0 triumph over Luton Town, extending their unbeaten run to seven matches.

The Gas moved fifth due to Wycombe Wanderers slipping up at home to Morecambe, while there were also away wins for AFC Wimbledon, Accrington Stanley and Dagenham & Redbridge.

That win lifted the Daggers out of the bottom two, and York City dropped to the bottom following a 1-0 defeat at relegation rivals Yeovil Town.

Elsewhere, there was a landmark goal for Jay Simpson - the striker hit his 20th goal of the campaign although Leyton Orient could only manage a 2-2 draw away at Stevenage.
