Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 26 preview

12 January 2016

After a weekend of FA Cup action, the Sky Bet Championship returns on Tuesday with 11 matches taking place.

Those fixtures are then followed by one game on Wednesday, which will complete the midweek schedule.

Here's a look at what's coming up, with all matches getting under way at 7.45pm:

Tuesday 12th January

Blackburn Rovers v Queens Park Rangers
Brentford v Middlesbrough
Bristol City v Preston North End
Derby County v Reading
Huddersfield Town v Charlton Athletic
Ipswich Town v Leeds United
Milton Keynes Dons v Burnley
Nottingham Forest v Birmingham City
Rotherham United v Brighton & Hove Albion
Sheffield Wednesday v Bolton Wanderers
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Fulham

Wednesday 13th January

Hull City v Cardiff City

In-form Middlesbrough lead the way in the division after seven wins in eight and they travel to Brentford, who are five points short of the Play-Off places.

Boro won the reverse meeting between these two, 3-1, and that was their eighth successive victory over the Bees – a record that stretches back to 1964. Brentford's last league win over their midweek opponents came way back in December 1938.

Second-placed Derby suffered a defeat against leaders Boro last time out, and their next task comes in the form of Reading, who will be without danger man Nick Blackman after he made a recent move to the Rams.

Hull, Ipswich, Brighton and Burnley make up the Play-Off positions. While the former two have home games, against Cardiff and Leeds, the latter pair travel to Rotherham and MK Dons respectively.

If Ipswich or Burnley slip up, Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham could rise in to the top six. The Owls go up against rock-bottom Bolton and Blues travel to mid-table draw specialists Nottingham Forest. Dougie Freedman's men have shared the spoils in five of their last six.

Charlton and Bristol City sit in the bottom three alongside Bolton but know a win could drag them out, at the expense of Rotherham or MK Dons.

The Addicks – without a victory in eight – take on Huddersfield, while the Robins host Preston, who they were promoted alongside from Sky Bet League 1 last term. The match at Ashton Gate will be a special one for one City fan.
