Review: Liverpool secure first-leg advantage over Stoke City

5 January 2016

Liverpool secured a first-leg advantage over Stoke City in the Capital One Cup Semi-Finals with a 1-0 success at the Britannia Stadium.

The visitors, aiming for their first major cup final since 2012, started much brighter on the night but were forced into two early changes with Philippe Coutinho and Dejan Lovren picking up injuries.

And one of the replacements, Jordon Ibe, was the man on target for the Reds with the only goal of the game.

Adam Lallana provided a cross which Joe Allen deflected into the path of Ibe, who made no mistake from close range.

Bojan miscued Stoke’s best chance of the match, and both sides had penalty appeals waved away, with the eight-time winners taking a 1-0 advantage into the second leg at Anfield on 26th January.
