Wigan Athletic are a team very much in form, and Chairman David Sharpe believes the latest additions to the squad signal their intent.Earlier this week, the Latics recruited Sam Morsy and Ryan Colclough to their ranks – two players who have impressed in Sky Bet League 1 already this term – and Sharpe believes the new signings highlight the club's ambition.
“It makes a statement as to our ambition that we are able to unveil Sam and Ryan, and I think both of these players will become big favourites here. They fit the right age profile and will form part of our future for seasons to come.”
The duo become the club's fifth and sixth signings of the January window, and manager Gary Caldwell added: “We saw their talent first hand in matches this season and they both were stand out players in matches against Chesterfield and Crewe respectively.
“They are exactly the type of players we want at Wigan Athletic, young and hungry, but with plenty of experience at this level at the same time as having the ability to progress and play in a higher division.
“Hopefully of course, that will be with us.”
Wigan have won four and drawn three of their last seven, which has seen them climb to fourth ahead of this weekend's clash with Port Vale, who are going well themselves – the Valiants are only three points adrift of a Play-Off place.
Port Vale came out on top in the reverse fixture, winning a five-goal thriller in September. Five of the six games prior to that were settled by a single goal, with one goalless stalemate thrown in for good measure.
The Latics have hit three goals in each of their last three home outings, can they continue their goalscoring form at the DW Stadium this weekend? Find out by following our live matchday Twitter feed, via @SkyBetLeague1.
