Capital One Cup Semi-Final second leg preview

25 January 2016

Both Capital One Cup Semi-Finals are finely poised as four teams fight it out for a place at Wembley this week in the second-leg ties.

First up, Liverpool welcome Stoke City to Anfield on Tuesday with the action getting under way at 7.45pm live on Sky Sports.

Jordon Ibe got the only goal of the game in the first leg at the Britannia Stadium to give Jurgen Klopp’s side a narrow advantage.

The Reds, who have won the competition a record eight times, will be buoyant after securing an enthralling 5-4 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road in the Premier League on Saturday with Adam Lallana firing home a dramatic 95th-minute winner.

Stoke, however, suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Leicester City and will be aiming to reverse a recent trend which has seen the Potters beat Liverpool just twice in 11 fixtures in all competitions.

They have also failed to beat Liverpool at Anfield in nearly 57 years - their last triumph being a 4-3 win in March 1959.

A day later, Manchester City entertain Everton at the Etihad Stadium, live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm, needing to overcome a 2-1 deficit following the first leg three weeks ago at Goodison Park.

Ramiro Funes Mori got the opener only for Jesus Navas to equalise 14 minutes from time. However, their joy was short-lived – two minutes to be precise – as Romelu Lukaku struck his 19th goal of the season to secure the Toffees an advantage ahead of the second leg.

The two teams have already met three times this season, each side winning once and the other being a 0-0 draw in the Premier League at the Etihad just a fortnight ago.
