Hull City boss Steve Bruce has been named the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for January. It was a perfect month on Humberside for Bruce, as he steered Hull to top spot in the Sky Bet Championship with 11 goals and 12 points from four games.
The gritty wins he inspired at QPR and Fulham were as important as two comfortable home victories in the month.
Bruce said: “It’s a big pat on the back and congratulations to all my staff who helped me tirelessly.
“Of course it’s the manager who gets a nice trophy but it’s also for the lads who work behind the scenes, the ones who are ready to take training now.
“I’d rather be picking it up in March or April than February, but there you are.”
George Burley, who chairs the Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel, said: “There were some outstanding managerial performances in the Sky Bet Championship in January, but Steve came out on top with a 100 per cent record.
“Hull scored 11 goals and only conceded one which has taken the club to the top of the division.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “A man who knows what it takes to get success in the jungle that is the Sky Bet Championship.
“Tight at the back and free-scoring last month, Hull put themselves back into contention for the Championship title with a perfect January.
“Four points ahead of third-placed Burnley with a game in hand, an immediate return to the Premier League is in their own hands as we head into February and that’s all you can ask at this stage.”
The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Ipswich Town boss George Burley, Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
