Northampton Town's 10-match winning run came to an end after being held 0-0 by struggling Hartlepool United.
Despite what was a fine point for Craig Hignett's men, Pools dropped a place in the Sky Bet League 2 standings after Yeovil picked up a vital three points in a relegation clash with Dagenham & Redbridge.
York fought back twice against Luton at Bootham Crescent, but were undone late on by an Olly Lee goal to slip to a 3-2 defeat, Stevenage lost 2-0 at home to Exeter while Newport beat Play-Off chasing Mansfield at Rodney Parade.
As a result of that loss, the Stags slipped out of the top seven, as did AFC Wimbledon - who were defeated by third-placed Oxford. Leyton Orient and Wycombe were the two clubs to take advantage, both picking up home triumphs.
Accrington's 2-2 draw with Barnet saw them lose ground on the top three, after Oxford's aforementioned win and a 1-0 victory for second-placed Plymouth.
Elsewhere, Portsmouth defeated Cambridge 2-1, and Carlise won at Morecambe by the same scoreline.
