Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 30 review

6 February 2016

Northampton Town extended their lead at the top of Sky Bet League 2 with a 2-0 win over York City on Matchday 30.

With five games falling foul of the English weather, the Cobblers were the only team from the top four in action, and they took full advantage with John-Joe O'Toole and Marc Richards goals opening up a five-point gap over second-placed Plymouth Argyle.

Mansfield moved up to fifth, overcoming Morecambe in a dramatic game at Field Mill. The Stags fought back from a goal down to lead 2-1, before goalkeeper Scott Shearer saved two penalties to preserve the lead.

Kevin Nolan handed himself a first start since taking player-manager duties at Leyton Orient, and the O's came away from Portsmouth with all three points courtesy of a fantastic Jobi McAnuff goal.

Another stunning goal on the road came at Wycombe, where Luton ran out winners thanks to Cameron McGeehan's first-half strike, and Crawley were the other team to pick up an away win - defeating Stevenage 1-0.

Elsewhere, Carlisle defeated Accrington 2-0 at Brunton Park, and Cambridge defeated Dagenham & Redbridge with Luke Berry settling matters from the penalty spot.
