Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 30 Preview

5 February 2016

Northampton Town can maintain their grip at the top of the Sky Bet League 2 table on Matchday 30 in the division, which sees a full schedule taking place.

The Cobblers welcome bottom side York City to Sixfields Stadium on Saturday with Chris Wilder's side unbeaten in the league since 28th December, and with two games in hand over nearest promotion rivals Plymouth Argyle.

Here's a look at the fixtures taking place in Sky Bet League 2 this weekend, with all kicking off at 3pm:

Bristol Rovers v AFC Wimbledon
Cambridge United v Dagenham & Redbridge
Carlisle United v Accrington Stanley
Exeter City v Oxford United
Mansfield Town v Morecambe
Newport County v Barnet
Northampton Town v York City
Notts County v Hartlepool Town
Portsmouth v Leyton Orient
Stevenage v Crawley Town
Wycombe Wanderers v Luton Town
Yeovil Town v Plymouth Argyle

That form from table-toppers Northampton saw manager Chris Wilder and winger Ricky Holmes collect the monthly awards in the division.

Second-placed Plymouth make the short journey to Yeovil, who have recently escaped the clutches of the relegation zone and are now unbeaten in four in all competitions.

Oxford United, who have two games in hand over Plymouth, currently occupy the third and final automatic promotion position. Michael Appleton takes his troops to an Exeter side who have won their last three in the league, but will now have to make do without Tom Nichols, after their top scorer moved to Sky Bet League 1 side Peterborough United on transfer deadline day.

The battle for the Play-Offs in Sky Bet League 2 is fascinating with 10 teams separated by just nine points.

Bristol Rovers lead the pack at this stage in fourth position and welcome AFC Wimbledon, a team who have won their last three successive away fixtures.

Paul Cook's Portsmouth missed the opportunity to go fourth in midweek after conceding a last-minute equaliser at Morecambe, when Shrimps' goalkeeper Barry Roche headed home to deny Pompey maximum points.

They have the chance to make amends at Fratton Park, where they entertain Leyton Orient. However, should the visitors clinch victory, they will go above Pompey in the table.

Meanwhile, Accrington, who have as many as four games in hand over some of the teams above them, travel to Carlisle who are without a league win in 2016.

Mansfield occupy the final Play-Off position and this weekend welcome Morecambe to Field Mill. Wycombe are just a point behind the Stags and are well placed to take advantage of any slip-ups in the top six when they take on Luton.

Elsewhere Stevenage, who parted company with Teddy Sheringham earlier in the week, host a Crawley side who haven't won on the road since 24th October.

In the other three games, Cambridge play Dagenham & Redbridge, Newport take on Barnet and Notts County host Hartlepool.
