Friday night under the lights: Burton Albion v Chesterfield

12 February 2016

The Football League weekend gets under way with action from Sky Bet League 1, when Burton Albion play host to Chesterfield tonight in a 7:45pm kick-off.

It's a relatively short journey down to the Pirelli Stadium for the travelling Spireites, who have lost 10 of their last 13 League 1 outings and picked up just seven points in that time. That dismal run of form has seen them slide down the table and into 19th place, one point clear of the relegation zone.

Quite a daunting prospect then, going up against the side that sit four points clear at the summit. The Brewers, who claimed the Sky Bet League 2 crown last season, have exceeded expectations and are still going strong, although they have alternated between victory and defeat in their last four matches.

Despite the departure of manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the transition has been seamless with Nigel Clough carrying on where the new QPR boss left off. Burton are one of only two clubs in The Football League to reach the 60-point mark this term - an achievement shared with League 2 table-toppers Northampton Town.

The first fixture between the pair this season resulted in a dramatic win for Burton, with Chesterfield enduring a nightmare second half.

Leading 1-0 at the break, the hosts were pegged back immediately after the restart, and Burton then struck right at the death through Jerome Binnom-Williams to take all three points.

The away side has come out on top in the last four of these meetings which could give Danny Wilson's men added confidence, but the last home win - back in 2010 - was achieved by Burton at the Pirelli... in February... on a Friday night.
