Football League trio eye Community Spirit glory

22 February 2016

Football League Trophy sponsor and leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s Trade will help paint a brighter future for one lucky community project in the UK.

Well over 100 entries were received for the Johnstone’s Trade Community Spirit campaign, which offers one community project the chance to win a redecoration makeover of its facility worth up to the value of £10,000.

A panel of judges has now whittled down the entries to a shortlist of four, with three Football League clubs included, based on criteria such as the impact each project has on its community in which it operates and urgency for redecoration.

The three finalists now face a public vote via www.johnstonestrade.com/communityspirit with people able to cast their vote ahead of the closing date of February 29.

The three Football League Cup finalist’s finalists are:

Notts County - Supporting Oasis Community Centre: A Centre, park and gardens based in a disadvantaged community of Worksop where a small charity has brought back to life a derelict youth club and abandoned recreation field.

Charlton Athletic - Supporting Hawksmoor Youth Club: A Greenwich-based youth club situated in the heart of the Thamesmead community which caters for youngsters aged from 10 to 19 and working with young people with special needs up to the age of 25.

Rotherham United - Supporting by Rotherham Rise: Its Women’s Centre is a new project which will support all women, children and young people in Rotherham, with a strong focus on people who are or have been victims of domestic or sexual abuse or child exploitation.

Richard Mazurkiewicz, marketing manager for Johnstone’s Trade, said: “We had a high number of fantastic entries and there were so many worthwhile projects that it made the shortlisting process extremely difficult.

“However, the four community projects in the final all do fantastic work and would all be very worthwhile winners.

To win a redecoration makeover will make a huge difference to the winner and we are proud to be making a real impact.”

The Johnstone’s Trade Community Spirit competition has been run in conjunction with the Football League Trophy, which is being sponsored by Johnstone’s for the tenth consecutive season in 2015/16.
