Final Third Development League Digest

11 February 2016

Here's a round-up of all the Final Third Development League fixtures played since Thursday 4th February.

Final Third Development League - West

Burton Albion ran out 3-1 winners at St. George's Park with Timmy Thiele, a trialist and Marcus Dinanaga on the scoresheet.

Jonny Kapend had equalised for the visitors but the Brewers sealed the points with 15 minutes to go.

With Shrewsbury Town's game postponed it gave Walsall the chance to go top of the table, however they suffered a 2-1 defeat at Wigan Athletic.

Louis Robles found the net twice in the first half with Milan Lalkovic scoring what proved to be a consolation goal for the Saddlers shortly before the interval.

Elsewhere, Wrexham prevailed 5-2 in an entertaining encounter with Morecambe, who remain bottom of the division.

Final Third Development League - South

With two matches postponed at AFC Wimbledon and Southend United, the only teams in action were AFC Bournemouth and Leyton Orient.

The Cherries dominated proceedings, recording an 8-3 win with Juan Iturbe scoring a hat-trick and Joshua King bagging a brace.

As a result they leapfrog the Dons as league leaders.

Final Third Development League - East

Doncaster Rovers and Grimsby Town played out a 3-3 draw with Jordan Linley converting a penalty in second-half stoppage time to clinch a point.

James Wroot had come off the bench to put the visitors ahead before a last-minute spot-kick was awarded.

However, the point was still enough to lift Grimsby off the bottom of the table.

Final Third Development League Cup Group A - North

Hartlepool United secured a narrow 1-0 win over Gateshead in the North section's only league or cup fixture.

Elsewhere, the Northern and Southern Cup Groups have been drawn, along with the semi-final line up so far - for more information you can download the Final Third Development League newsletter by clicking here.
