Darren Sarll to take charge of Stevenage for first time

5 February 2016

Stevenage begin life without Teddy Sheringham this week with Darren Sarll placed in caretaker charge for Saturday's visit of Crawley Town in Sky Bet League 2.

The club parted company with the former England International earlier this week, sitting 19th in the league table and without a win since 12th December.

Sarll takes to the dugout having been the club's first-team coach since June 2015 and Head of Youth for three years prior to that.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said: “I am a fan so when I hear people say, 'All we want to see is 11 players going out and trying their absolute hardest for the football club' - I agree with them.

“If we can instil that in this short space of time we won’t be far off because there is some very talented boys in that dressing room who have had good success in their careers."

The two sides meet for the second time in the space of six weeks with Crawley recording a 2-1 win on Boxing Day in West Sussex, however they have only won twice since then.

Ahead of the game, Crawley manager Mark Yates told the club website: "We seem to keep playing teams under new management and sometimes that can make it more difficult but it's something we have to deal with.

"With that in mind, it's hard to predict what sort of way they will play now but it's always a hard game at Stevenage."
