Brighton & Hove Albion close gap on automatic promotion places with victory over Brentford

5 February 2016

Brighton & Hove Albion cut the gap to the Sky Bet Championship automatic promotion places to just two points, after a convincing 3-0 win over Brentford.

Anthony Knockaert was the standout performer for the Seagulls, and caused trouble from the off for the opposition defenders.

His efforts were rewarded in the 27th minute, as the Frenchman neatly found the bottom corner to open the scoring.

Timer Hemed doubled the hosts’ lead shortly after, heading home after a quality delivery from Beram Kayal.

Brighton were rarely troubled by Brentford, and wrapped up the all three points in second-half stoppage time, with Jamie Murphy cooly slotting past David Button.

The win was the third on the bounce for Chris Hughton’s side, who move up to third in the standings, two points behind second-placed Middlesbrough.
