Brentford’s Dean Smith and Mark Devlin to join #JeffsMarch

15 February 2016

Brentford Head Coach Dean Smith and Chief Executive Mark Devlin have announced they will be joining Jeff Stelling on the final leg of his marathon walk from the North East to Wembley Stadium.

Sky Sports Presenter Stelling has joined forces with The Football League’s Official Charity Partner Prostate Cancer UK and will be visiting more than 30 football clubs in 10 days as he walks from his beloved Hartlepool United to Wembley in late March.

His final day – Wednesday 30th March – will start at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium. Jeff will make his way from South West London to North West London for the final 26 miles with Dean and Mark joining him at Griffin Park to walk the rest of the way.

Fans can apply to join Dean and Mark in supporting Jeff from West London to Wembley, or follow them along a shorter section of the route. Travelling the whole way on 30th March means departing from Kingston upon Thames, along the river to Brentford and Fulham, then heading past Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers on the way to Wembley.

There is also the option to apply for a shorter walk of six miles from Griffin Park to Craven Cottage. Supporters can also help raise funds to help fight the disease and raise awareness of the walk itself, with information that can be found at www.menunitedmarch.org.

Dean Smith is excited to be part of the day. He said: “I am happy to be joining Jeff for the final day of his gruelling walk from Hartlepool to Wembley. It is for a charity very close to me, with my good friend Errol McKellar being an ambassador for Men United.

“I am full of admiration for Jeff in taking on this challenge and the small part I can play in helping raise awareness and funds for this charity is a privilege. The challenge has certainly caught the attention of the football family and I am sure along with myself they will be there, fully supportive in giving what they can.”

Mark Devlin also paid tribute to Jeff, and Hartlepool Chief Executive Russ Green, for taking on the task. He said: “What a fantastic and gruelling challenge Jeff and Russ have in front of them. It will be a privilege to be able to join them on the final leg of their inspirational walk from Hartlepool to Wembley Stadium.

"I’m sure that everyone from both inside and outside of the football community will offer as much help as they are able in raising both awareness and funds for the ongoing battle against Prostate Cancer. I just hope I can keep up with the pair of them and look forward to walking up Wembley Way with Jeff, Russ and everyone else involved in this wonderful walk.”
