Burton Albion recorded a first-ever away win in the Sky Bet Championship, defeating Rotherham United 2-1 in a Thursday night division double-header.
Rotherham were on top for the majority of the first half, but found Jon McLaughlin in good form for the visitors. However, the Brewers took the lead in the 36th minute, when Chris O’Grady found the net against his former club.Soon after, Jackson Irvine doubled the lead when heading home a John Brayford cross, but the Millers gave themselves hope when Tom Adeyemi struck in first-half stoppage time.
Despite their best efforts after the break, Rotherham couldn’t find a a way through, and Nigel Clough’s men held on for a historic victory.
In the night’s other match, which was screened live on Sky Sports, Aston Villa and Leeds United played out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.
The sides went into the break level, but Man of the Match Pontus Jansson’s header early in the second half squeezed beyond Mark Bunn to give Leeds the advantage.
They held that advantage until the 86th minute, but when Liam Cooper handled the ball in the box, Jonathan Kodjia confidently dispatched his penalty past Rob Green to restore parity.
Hadi Sacko struck the bar moments later for the away side but they couldn’t find the goal which would have taken them third in the table.
