Burton Albion ran out winners in front of the Friday night cameras, defeating Derby County 1-0 at the Pirelli Stadium.
The Brewers started brightly, and they got their reward as early as the 12th minute when Jackson Irvine powerfully headed home a cross from Man of the Match Lucas Akins. It was a game of few clear-cut chances, with Derby on top for much of it without ever truly testing Burton goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin.
With time running out, the Rams were reduced to long-distance efforts and Burton saw the game out to move in to the Sky Bet Championship top six, at least until Matchday 5 resumes on Saturday afternoon.
There was one moment to treasure in the closing stages, when Nigel Clough brought on new signing Shaun Barker as a late substitute for the hosts.
Barker, a former Rams player under Clough, has battled back from a knee injury which has kept him out of the game since March 2012 — and this was a fitting fixture for the 33-year-old to return.
