Sky Bet League 2: Matchday 40 review

2 April 2016

Bristol Rovers moved back into the automatic promotion places in Sky Bet League 2 on Matchday 40 with a 3-0 win over Crawley Town.

Matty Taylor scored twice with Liam Lawrence getting the other to help propel Rovers above Plymouth Argyle and Accrington Stanley.

Argyle lost 2-1 to Exeter City in the Devon derby, while Accrington drew 1-1 with Cambridge United at the Wham Stadium.

Portsmouth are now five points shy of the aforementioned trio with a game in hand after overcoming Carlisle United 1-0 at Fratton Park.

The race for the final Play-Off position in Sky Bet League 2 is well and truly on - currently it belongs to Wycombe Wanderers, despite their 2-1 loss at home to AFC Wimbledon, who themselves moved up to ninth.

Leyton Orient had the opportunity to go above the Chairboys but they could only draw 1-1 with York City at Bootham Crescent.

League leaders Northampton Town could have gained promotion but had to accept a point in a 2-2 draw with Notts County.

Hartlepool United extended their unbeaten run to seven matches by defeating Mansfield Town 2-1 at Victoria Park.

Elsewhere, Stevenage beat Luton Town 1-0, Morecambe came out on top 4-2 at home to Barnet and Yeovil Town defeated Newport County 1-0.
