Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 43 preview

19 April 2016

The race for promotion continues with the top two sides meeting at the Pirelli Stadium on Matchday 43.

Burton, without a win in five, entertain a Wigan Athletic team who lost for the first time since mid-December at Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

Should the league-leading Latics bounce back with a win, then Walsall could return to the automatic promotion places at the Brewers' expense, if the Saddlers can overcome Swindon Town.

Here's a list of the fixtures being played in Sky Bet League 1 on Matchday 43. All are 7.45pm kick-offs:

Tuesday 19th April 2016

Barnsley v Peterborough United
Burton Albion v Wigan Athletic
Chesterfield v Doncaster Rovers
Coventry City v Bradford City
Crewe Alexandra v Colchester United
Millwall v Fleetwood Town
Rochdale v Gillingham
Scunthorpe United v Bury
Shrewsbury Town v Sheffield United
Southend United v Oldham Athletic
Walsall v Swindon Town

Fourth-placed Bradford are unbeaten in their last five and are just six points shy of second place; their bid for promotion continues at Coventry. Millwall are next with 69 points, and they play a Fleetwood side fighting for points at the other end of the table.

Gillingham travel to Rochdale on the back of four winless games, and should Justin Edinburgh's side suffer defeat then Barnsley are poised to take advantage. Three points at home to Peterborough would see the Tykes return to the top six at the Gills' expense.

At the other end, Colchester could go down if they fail to beat already-relegated Crewe and results go against them elsewhere. The aforementioned Fleetwood are one of the clubs that could confirm relegation for the U's, as could Shrewsbury and Oldham. The Shrews host Sheffield United, while John Sheridan's charges travel to Southend.

Doncaster will be boosted by Saturday's win over Wigan, and now travel to struggling Chesterfield in a huge battle towards the bottom of the division, while Scunthorpe host Bury in the night's other fixture.
