Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 42 preview

15 April 2016

There's a full schedule of matches in Sky Bet League 1 this weekend with crucial games taking place at both ends of the table on Matchday 42.

The battle for survival continues with both Colchester United and Doncaster Rovers needing victories to maintain their hopes of staying in the division.

Colchester, unbeaten in four, play Peterborough United while Doncaster welcome league leaders Wigan Athletic to the Keepmoat Stadium.

Neither can be relegated this weekend but maximum points would pile pressure on the sides directly above.

Here's a list of the Sky Bet League 1 fixtures taking place on Matchday 42 - all are 3pm kick-offs unless stated:

Saturday 16th April 2016

Chesterfield v Sheffield United (1pm)
Burton Albion v Barnsley
Colchester United v Peterborough United
Coventry City v Millwall
Crewe Alexandra v Scunthorpe United
Doncaster Rovers v Wigan Athletic
Fleetwood Town v Oldham Athletic
Gillingham v Port Vale
Rochdale v Blackpool
Shrewsbury Town v Bradford City
Swindon Town v Bury
Walsall v Southend United

A win for Wigan Athletic - four points clear on 80 - would strengthen their hold on automatic promotion, while second-placed Burton Albion are without a win in four and take on Barnsley with a host of sides looking to take advantage if they slip up.

One of those is Walsall who went third during the week with an impressive win over Gillingham. The Saddlers are five points behind Nigel Clough's men with a game in hand.

Burton's opponents Barnsley are now just three points shy of the Play-Offs and are unbeaten away from home since 13th February.

Phil Parkinson's Bradford City have quietly crept up the Sky Bet League 1 table with four consecutive 1-0 victories and could move up to third with another win - they face Shrewsbury Town.

Just below them are Millwall; they are unbeaten in three and travel to the Ricoh Arena to lock horns with a Coventry City side who haven't won in their last five.

Gillingham have slipped to sixth but are three points clear of Barnsley. Justin Edinburgh's side welcome Port Vale to Priestfield on Matchday 42.

Towards the bottom and there's a huge game taking place at Highbury Stadium where Fleetwood Town, in 19th and above the drop zone by one point, take on Oldham Athletic, who are a point better off in 18th.

Rock-bottom Crewe Alexandra, already relegated, take on Scunthorpe United while 21st-placed Blackpool travel to Rochdale.

Elsewhere, Chesterfield take on Sheffield United in an early kick-off at the Proact Stadium. Swindon Town, without a win in seven, welcome Bury to the County Ground, with the Shakers not winning away from home since 23rd January.
