Sky Bet League 1: Matchday 40 review

Wigan Athletic extended their unbeaten run to 19 matches to go top of Sky Bet League 1 on Matchday 40.

Gary Caldwell's men secured a convincing 5-1 win over Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow with Will Grigg grabbing a brace in the process.

The Latics took advantage of Burton Albion's slip up at home to Bury with the Brewers only able to draw 1-1 at the Pirelli Stadium.

Walsall lost 2-0 away at Sheffield United, who kept their Play-Off hopes alive, while Coventry City drew 0-0 at Gillingham.

Colchester United took a valuable point following a goalless draw at home to Millwall, and Bradford City won their third consecutive game by beating Scunthorpe United 1-0 at Valley Parade.

Bottom of the league Crewe Alexandra lost 3-0 at Peterborough United, while Doncaster Rovers drew 2-2 with Rochdale.

Elsewhere, Blackpool beat Southend United 2-0, Chesterfield won 4-2 at home to Port Vale and Swindon Town drew 1-1 with Fleetwood Town.
