Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 44 review

23 April 2016

The Sky Bet Championship's top three are all level on points with just two matches of the season remaining.

Burnley's Friday night triumph over Lancashire rivals Preston North End saw them return to the top of the table, and they remained there after Middlesbrough could only draw at home to Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Brighton & Hove Albion joined the party, overcoming relegated Charlton Athletic 3-1 to sit outside the top two on goal difference alone.

Hull City and Derby County will compete in the Play-Offs, with the latter drawing 1-1 with Sheffield Wednesday thanks to Darren Bent's late equaliser. That goal means the sixth-placed Owls aren't quite over the line yet — a last-gasp Cardiff City winner against Bolton Wanderers means the Bluebirds are still in contention for the final Play-Off spot.

At the other end of the table, a crushing defeat at home to Brentford confirmed Milton Keynes Dons' immediate return to Sky Bet League 1.

Rotherham United extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with a draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, meaning the Dons would have been relegated regardless of the outcome at stadiummk.
