Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 44 preview

22 April 2016

With just three games left to play in the Sky Bet Championship every point is important as the chase for automatic promotion continues on Matchday 44.

League leaders Middlesbrough will stay top of the pile if they clinch victory at the Riverside Stadium against Ipswich Town.

However, should they lose and Burnley fail to win, then Brighton & Hove Albion could find themselves at the summit, assuming they beat relegated Charlton Athletic at the Valley.

Burnley kick-off the weekend's action when they travel to Deepdale on Friday evening to contest a Lancashire derby live on Sky Sports against Preston North End, who are without a win in four.

The Clarets will return to the top if they claim victory, but will have to wait for Saturday's results to see if their position is maintained.

As for the Play-Off positions, Hull City and Derby County look odds on to finish in either four or fifth place in the table.

The Rams welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the iPro Stadium in the early lunchtime kick-off, live on Sky Sports, with the visitors looking to clinch the final Play-Off spot with a win.

A defeat will give Cardiff City a huge incentive, and they'll cut the gap to just three points with two matches to play if they can overcome already-relegated Bolton Wanderers.

At the bottom, Milton Keynes Dons must win at home to Brentford to have any chance of avoiding relegation. The team directly above them, Bristol City, are away to Blackburn Rovers.

Rotherham United, unbeaten in 10, travel to Molineux to play a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who have won just once in their last seven outings.

Elsewhere, Fulham entertain Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield Town locks horns with Birmingham City and Queens Park Rangers play Reading.
