Boro thrashed Huddersfield Town 3-0 at the Riverside Stadium and Brighton won 2-1 away at Birmingham City, as Burnley were held to a goalless stalemate at home to Cardiff City.The results mean Middlesbrough now trail the Clarets by just one point with a game in hand, while Albion move to within two points of Sean Dyche’s men.
Derby County recorded the night’s most emphatic win - thumping fourth placed Hull City 4-0 at the iPro Stadium. The Rams have opened up a four-point cushion in the last of the Play-Off places as a result.
Sheffield Wednesday remain fifth and five points clear of seventh place, after they came from behind to beat 10-man Blackburn Rovers at Hillsborough.
At the foot of the table, Milton Keynes Dons squandered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Fulham beat Preston North End by the same scoreline to move seven points clear of the drop.
Bristol City and Rotherham United, who occupy the two places above the relegation zone, drew 1-1 at Ashton Gate.
