Sky Bet Championship: Matchday 39 review

2 April 2016

Burnley maintained a healthy lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table after twice coming from behind to draw 2-2 with fellow promotion hopefuls Brighton & Hove Albion.

Dale Stephens had given hosts Brighton the advantage in the lunchtime game, only for Andre Gray to equalise immediately for the Clarets. Anthony Knockaert then put the Seagulls back in front on the stroke of half-time, before Michael Keane popped up with another Burnley equaliser in second-half stoppage time.

The majority of the chasing pack closed the gap and recorded wins, with Hull City beating Bristol City 4-0 and Sheffield Wednesday triumphing 1-0 at Huddersfield Town to continue their Play-Off push.

Two more Play-Off hopefuls, Cardiff City and Derby County, clashed in South Wales, and it was the Bluebirds who prevailed 2-1 in front of a record home crowd.

In the other early kick-off, goals from Joe Garner and Jordan Hugill secured Preston North End all three points against Blackburn Rovers in the Lancashire derby, while Rotherham United scored late on to give manager Neil Warnock a 2-1 victory over his former club Leeds United.

Elsewhere, Charlton Athletic also netted at the death to beat Birmingham City 2-1, and Fulham downed Milton Keynes Dons by the same scoreline at Craven Cottage in the big game at the foot of the division.
