Burnley striker Sam Vokes has been named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for March.Powerful in the air and finally back to full fitness and his mobile best, he has led the front line magnificently since January, pulling defenders out of position at will. His four goals included a sublime header against Wolves.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche said: “We are delighted for Sam. He has got stronger and stronger as the season has progressed and his continued thirst to improve and deliver performances has been rightly recognised with this award.”
Vokes said: “I’m feeling great. It’s coinciding with the team at the moment and how we’re all playing.
“As a striker, the team’s creating a lot of chances so it’s great to be in a team that’s playing that way and I’ve managed to get on the end of a couple in the last few games.”
Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Having been largely overshadowed by the wonderful Andre Gray's goal scoring feats for most of the season, Sam Vokes showed Burnley what they were missing during his long lay-off with some vital goals in March.
“Vokes is a handful for any defender in the Championship and a real team player who will be crucial in Burnley's battle to get back to the Premier League.”
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
