Port Vale: Theo Robinson nets Vale's 6,000th Football League goal

25 April 2016

Port Vale striker Theo Robinson wrote his name into club folklore on Saturday by scoring a landmark goal for the Valiants.

Robinson's 37th-minute effort against Rochdale, a Sky Bet League 1 match the Valiants won 4-1, brought up the club's 6,000th Football League goal.

That landmark strike comes 124 years after Vale's first Football League goal, which was netted by Wallace Bliss in a 5-1 defeat at Small Heath on 3rd September 1892.

Robinson moved to Vale Park in January and was making his first start since 12th March, having opened his account for Vale the previous week against Colchester United.

On achieving Vale's landmark goal, Robinson said: "I haven't played for a while now so to it was good to get a start and get a goal.

"I've just heard upstairs [about the 6,000th goal] so it's quite a good landmark hopefully to leave a little stamp.

"I'm happy to get on the scoresheet, get in the team and put in a good performance."

The victory propelled Rob Page's men to 11th in Sky Bet League 1 who are now five points shy of the Play-Offs with only two games to play.
